Slimming Down for Spring

January this year is not only about slimming down those holiday pounds, it's also about slimming down my possessions. Within the past couple weeks, and to most likely continue until late Spring, I've been going through all my things in detail.

I've been getting rid of things, rather than holding on "in case I use it someday", and I've been organizing like crazy (which I love to do).  Nice items get put in a pile for our friends to peruse in case they want to take it home, and junk goes out into the garbage.  We have rid ourselves of probably 6 garbage bags full of junk and have given out a good deal of things.

This weekend left us with some warmer weather, so I used that to get into the spring cleaning mode.  I went through our outside storage closet and, cleaning, purging, and reorganizing all at once.  I went through our bedroom closet as well, which was last on my list.  It had been half completed a couple weeks ago, but still had 3 totes and a filing cabinet to go through.  The filing cabinet was important and took a bit of time.  All that important paperwork has to be in order for the move!

The last thing I completed was a list of all my precious cooking ingredients that will be left behind.  I love to cook oriental food, and I feel like this has doubled my ingredients.  So many oils and vinegars to be left behind (hopefully with someone that will use them).  It's daunting to think of replenishing my kitchen when I get to Spain.  With everything in the cupboards and refrigerator, each individual item might be anywhere between $2-15, but added up will be quite a hefty bill.

My husband said, "well, we can do pretty well for a while with olive oil, salt, and pepper, right?"
... and that's like telling me to pick just one skein of yarn to bring.. ha!  Cooking and creating is what I enjoy.  Olive oil, salt and pepper do work with just about everything, but where's the variety?  I guess if that ends up being the case I'll just have to eat out on town more often ;)

So at the moment I have gone through everything in my house.  I have a few items I am taking with me to NY in April to leave with my parents, and they are already placed in my car.  I will most likely do the bathroom items again right before the movers come, and then see what is left that they wouldn't take.

Along with my possessions and holiday pounds, my to-do list is also getting slimmer by the day. Hurray for productivity!

'Til next time...
